It sounds as though you have uploaded MP3 files to your phone but you don’t see them when trying to assign them to a contact. The process for assigning uploaded ringtones to contacts is pretty much the same as assigning preloaded ringtones to contacts.
Sometimes with the BlackBerry when you upload music files they don’t show in the list until you reboot your device. What you want to do it take out the battery from the device (while the device is still on). Let it stay out for about 30 seconds and then reinsert.
Also, if you are uploading the music using a USB cable and are storing them on a microSD card, you will need to first disconnect the USB cable from the BlackBerry before will be able to see the contents of the memory card. When Mass Storage mode is enabled, and the BlackBerry is connected to the computer via the USB cable, you can’t browse the files on the microSD card from the BlackBerry.
So, in summary, make sure that the BlackBerry device is disconnected from the USB cable AND try a hard reset (taking the battery out while the device is on).
